Architectural Tours of Savannah
Led by Jonathan Stalcup, Architectural Tours of Savannah will take you from colonial to contemporary homes, public buildings, and other structures. A graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design with a Master of Architecture degree, Stalcup shares Savannah’s history with both visitors and locals by describing the city’s built environment. Similarly, the city’s original plan and its preservation are told in a narrative timeline. Also, the almost 300 years in between are examined as they begin the tour with the oldest building in history and proceed through the major periods and styles of the present day.
Additionally, Stalcup will also talk about the materials and building techniques that were used as well as what the people were trying to portray with the styles, and how it all blends into the city’s present-day urban design.
Oglethorpe’s original plan as well as modern efforts to maintain the city’s past are examined. Tours allow a limited number of people to enhance tour quality. Among the historical stops are the Owens-Thomas House and the Olde Pink House Restaurant & Tavern.
The number of people per tour are kept to a minimum in order to enhance the quality of the tour. Most tours meet in Oglethorpe Square.
